Over the last couple of years Tik Tok and Reddit have both had viral videos / threads asking people to answer the eternal question:

"What is the equivalent of flowers for men?".

With thousands and thousands of comments it's safe to say that by looking at these posts you'll get gift ideas and also draw some consensus as to what the majority of people (mostly men) suggest as an alternative to flowers for guys.

But... if you can't be bothered trawling through all the thousands of comments to get a sense of what these gift suggestions are (and there are thousands, the Reddit post alone had over 18,000 comments!) we have done the hard work for you!

Some of the results will be more surprising than others, so sit back, relax and read for about another 30 seconds and all will be revealed.

We've broken this down by TikTok and Reddit comments, one chart for each with the top 20 from each post.

There are similarities when comparing each of them, we cover this below.

How We Sifted Through All The Comments

For those of you wanting to know how we created these results here are our steps:

1. Used software to scrape all the comments from each post.
2. Used an online word counter to count the frequency each word appeared.
3. Removed any redundant words like "the", "is", "a" etc.
4. Grouped similar words, e.g. food, meal, lunch.
5. Used the data to create the charts above, ranking from most to least frequency of occurence.

Note, the word flower/flowers appeared most frequently but as the intention with the posts was to find the equivalent of flowers we omitted that from the chart.

So you have seen whisky spelt two different ways (whisky and whiskey) and are wondering what, if any, difference there is.

The short answer is there is no difference between Whisky and Whiskey, in the actual drink that is. They are both a spirit made from grain, but there is a reason why there are two different ways to spell it.

Difference Between Whisky and Whiskey

The difference between Whisky and Whiskey is a result of where in the world the whisky or whiskey has been made. Whiskey with an 'e' is typical of whiskies made in the United States or Ireland, while Whisky without an 'e' is for all other parts of the world (e.g. Scotland, Canada, Australia, Japan, etc).

There are execptions to this rule of thumb which we outline below.

When Is Whiskey With An 'e' Used?

If it was made in America or Ireland the spelling will be 'whiskey' with an 'e'.

We have gifts with both popular American and Irish whiskeys, such as the Gentleman Jack Whiskey gift set and the Jameson Whiskey gift set.

One interesting American whiskey that does not spell it with an 'e' is Maker's Mark. They do not use an 'e' as they were aiming for a more premium market and wanted to distinguish themselves from other American distilleries.

When Is Whisky Without An 'e' Used?

If it is made literally anywhere else in the world (e.g. Scotland, Canada and Japan) it will be spelt 'whisky' without the 'e'.

What About The Plural Spelling?

Interestingly the use of the 'e' carries on in the pluarl spelling, so that the plural of whiskey is whiskeys, while the plural of whisky is whiskies.

This is a question many people, like yourself, ask every February.

We ourselves had this question until we came up with and launched our gifting website Brewquets in 2016.

While our initial premise was not Valentine’s Day specific (we were first set on answering the age old question of “what do you get someone who isn't into flowers?") it turns out the answer we came to lends itself quite well as a gift for men on Valentines Day.

As a general rule of thumb most women are into flowers, so we knew that the main target for a non-flower gift alternative was likely men. And what do many men like? Beer!

With that in mind we first launched with the 3 Beer Bouquet, aka the Brewquet, a play on words between “brews” (beers) and a bouquet of flowers.

For Valentine's Day 2018 we appeared on the Sunrise morning show and sales went crazy! It was a fun but a bit of a hectic ride with the response from recipients and gifters absolutely amazing. This really helped validate our thinking with 99% of these beer gifts were being bought for men.

New Product For 2024

Not ones to sit on our laurels we wanted to have something new to offer for 2024 so we took our popular beer can puzzle and jazzed it up for Valentine's Day with a red love heart locking rope and the option to select more that just beer as the canned drink that is trapped inside the puzzle.

If you are unfamiliar with the can puzzle here's what it is:

• the puzzle is a brain teaser where a can of drink is "locked" inside
• the recipient has to solve how to unlock the rope and wood lock to release the can
• only once unlocked can they enjoy the drink

We send the drink locked in the puzzle along with a QR code should they need help solving it.
