Our Top 5 Tips When Organising Client Gifts
#1. What's THE number one thing everyone is good at talking about?
Themselves!
When you next see them make some small talk and get to know their interestsst. What did they do on the weekend? What team do they support? What do they do in their spare time as a hobby? What TV programs have they been watching.
All this small talk is a great way to get to know their interests and later down the track tailor a gift or the gift message to suit them personally. For example if they are into camping you could get them The Ultimate Campsites of Australia book or you include in their gift message something about how good it was that their team make it to the finals.
#2. Following on from number one above, in general conversation you could ask what their favourite type of drink is, once they let you know write it down in your phones contact notes. You can do this not only for they type of alcoholic beverage they like, getting yourself organised for their end if year gift, but also they type of tea or coffee the drink. This way when you next meet you can have a look before hand and they'll think you have an amazing memory!
#3. While almost all workplaces allow for gifts to be received, some, like government agencies may not. If you are unsure, it's a good idea to double check with their company policy, after all you don't want to end up in a sagga like Barry O'Farrell did in 2014. You can check this by making a quick call to the companies front office or HR department.
#4. If you can personally hand your client the gift that is always a bonus. Not only is it an excuse for you to see them, for example just before the Christmas break, but it's also a good way to re-inforce the relationship face to face. That's not to say that sending them a gift isn't good, it's just that personally handing it to them is better (if possible).
#5. Always include a message with the gift! You'll want to make sure they know who the gift was from. Make the gift message memorable and personalised if you can as this goes a long way to forging your relationship.
Extra Tip: Give Yourself Time
This one isn't so much from a gift perspective but more to help you organise the client gifts.
Give yourself plenty of time. While we can dispatch quite quickly once we have all the information we find the thing that takes the most time is getting the recipient list, gift messages and final approvals. If it is just a handful of gifts these can be placed through our website. For larger bulk orders of 10 or more we see the average timings as follows:
- 1-2 weeks for the list and messages. Sometimes longer if you are waiting for a larger sales team to confirm which clients should receive gifts
- 1 week for quote, final approvals and payments. We find the smaller businesses are quite quite bit larger businesses may need to wait for their accounts team payment cycles.
- 1 week for dispatching
Of course these are just guides and we can often process orders in a matter of days if everything has been provided and there is no need to wait for information or payment.
